Too much sugar in fruit? Not at all.

Updated: Apr 3, 2018

Does it seem logical that fruit would be bad for you?

Fruit Does Not Contribute to Weight Gain

Food that has artificial sugar added is what packs on the pounds - like soda drinks, candy, cake, cookies, donuts, pastries and ice cream.

There've been studies done showing that those who eat more fruit actually lose more weight.

In his book, How Not To Die, on page 290, Dr. Michael Greger explains “fructose comes prepackaged with fiber, antioxidants, and phytonutrients that appear to nullify adverse fructose affects… only fructose from added sugars appears to be associated with declining liver function, high blood pressure, and weight gain.”

Benefits of Fruit Fructose

“Eating berries can blunt the insulin spike from high-glycemic foods like white bread, for example. This may be because the fiber in fruit has a gelling effect in your stomach and small intestine that slows the release of sugars or because of certain phytonutrients in fruit that appear to block the absorption of sugar through the gut wall and into your bloodstream. So eating fructose the way nature intended carries benefits rather than risks.” Dr. Michael Greger, How Not To Die, page 291
