Healthy Blood for a Healthy Bod

Apart from beautiful skin, the more important aspect of eating whole plant foods is for the cleanest, healthiest blood. And this smoothie makes it easy.

It's even a win for our 5 year old who would otherwise never eat beets and especially their greens.

This recipe was created by my friend, AZ. She has the most amazing story of health and healing that I've personally known.

After a traumatic heart attack years ago, her father was rushed to the ER and was told he needed a heart transplant. Is there anything more terrifying than this?!

That night AZ pinged me asking me about that doctor I had mentioned who specialized in heart disease. She was referring to Caldwell Esselstyn who I had first discovered through the documentary Forks Over Knives.

Dr. Esselstyn worked with patients who were told by their cardiologists they only had one year left to live. After putting them on a very strict plant-based diet, they reversed their heart disease and in fact outlived their one-year-sentence. More than two decades later, they're thriving and well.

The most striking 'proof' apart from that story is the visual that he's shared of a patient's blood vessels that regenerated after going plant-based:

Fragile and about to tear leading to the worst possible outcome...to strong, healthy, and vibrant.

These doctors and pioneers of the modern plant-based era are the reason why thousands of people and families have been saved. Including AZ's.

That terrifying night in the ER, AZ bought and read Dr. Esselstyn's book, Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease, and the next morning told her dad about it, sharing exactly what he will and will no longer eat, and you know what? He did it.

His recovery was slow and immediate. He became a star patient. He no longer needs a heart transplant (!!!) and he's lowered his medications and continues to be here for his family.

I'm blown away by AZ, her dad's love for his family, and the power of plants.

The greatest gift to these patients is the increasing recognition that they are the locus of control for their disease – not some pill or procedure. They have made themselves heart attack proof and lose the greatest fear of all heart patients and their families – when will the next heart attack occur?
